Buildings insurance covers any damage to the building itself, including the main structure, outbuildings, and underground pipes. We will also offer deterioration of stock insurance to cover damage to stock stored in specified cold storage spaces, which occurs because of a change in temperature caused by a breakdown of the refrigeration equipment or accidental damage to it.

Depending on what area your restaurant is situated, you may wish to add terrorism cover, as this is generally excluded from most standard insurance packages. Cover can include damage to contents and property as well as loss of income as a result of the terrorist incident.

Many restaurants are situated underneath other businesses or residential premises with no association to them. A common claim for this reason can be damage to a restaurant’s contents from water that has escaped from a burst pipe upstairs.

Deep fat fryers can increase the likelihood of a fire breaking out in restaurant. We’ll advise you how often these and ducting need to be cleaned and serviced to protect you in the event of this common claim.

Food poisoning is a claim commonly associated with restaurants, and whilst you may have taken every precaution necessary, mistakes happen that can lead to a customer becoming ill from the food you’ve served. Our policies will cover the cost of defending yourself if someone takes legal action against you.

Insurers will want to know your current food hygiene rating and will often rate your premium on this. So, making sure you have attained a good score is evidence of a well-run food business.

Speak to us and we’ll discuss in more detail about other covers you may want to consider when insuring your restaurant, such as directors and officers, legal expenses, and employee dishonesty insurance.
